Where is the axe? How to chop dead trees

Cast on a dead farm tree

1. Open your flute or spell list and play Chant of the Woodcutters. Pinning the song can keep its notes visible.
2. After the cast, target a dead tree on the farm. On controller, Eastshade’s general chop explanation says to move the cursor with the left stick, queue a tree with A and confirm with X.
3. Watch for the enchanted axe to travel to the target and start working.

The developer’s direct answer is “no axe” and “click a dead tree.” The extra pin and travel details come from a player’s demo report.

If the axe does not appear at once

First check that the tree was actually selected and the command confirmed. A player reported that enchanted tools move from their previous position and may need a short delay. Treat that as their observed timing, not a fixed countdown or a guarantee that every failed cast is simply slow.

A later casting shortcut

A player reported that after learning songs in the music classroom, the axe and pickaxe became available directly from the flute control. You can still play the notes before that shortcut. See the casting guide if the song prompt itself is the obstacle.
